MISTY DESIGN 3.
PERSONAL COMFORT.
We freely, and publicly,list our design notes for Misty of Gosford in the hope they might be of some assistance to anyone on a similar journey.
Geoff & Judy Childs.
We decided that the most important considerations for Personal Comfort were Ventilation, Insulation, Cockpit Sun protection, and closely followed by, seating and sleeping bunk design and quality.
Required ventilation was achieved with five cabin top opening Hatches, nine opening ports, four generous custom designed Dorades (2x4”. 2x5”), assisted by five permanent electric fans.
*Five Cabin Top (veranda) hatches.
We use the term "veranda hatch" because the hatch lids have a significant overhang over the actual cabin top opening, & this in combination with, the vertical riser around the opening, enables the hatch lid to remain cracked for ventilation during inclement weather.
Note
All hatch lids have recessed external hand holds & tapered sides to prevent ropes fouling.

* Dorades
Two x 5” Custom Dorades.
All hull, above the water line, cabin, and cabin top, from chain locker to stern, has been insulated with 25 mm adhesive backed, aluminium foil faced, fire retardant, commercial foam insulation.
* Hard Top Weather protection.
The hardtop provide weather protection
around the companionway entry area.
* Waterproof Cockpit Sunshade.
We believe we would
- never leave home without -
our permanent Cockpit Sunshade.

Let’s be realistic in a climate, like we have in Australia, a metal framed, sturdy, all weather cockpit cover, in our opinion, is absolutely essential.
Not some flimsy canvas “add-on” like often seen fitted to some European designed Yachts
(as an after-thought).

* Bunk, seating, design, and foam quality.
If you have ever experienced, as we have with past boats that we have purchased, the often inadequate comfort and quality of seat and bunk cushions, you will understand that when designing a boat for two people who wish to undertake extended cruising (Living aboard) that we focused our attention firmly on seating design and comfort.
First of all we decided that as a minimum the Saloon Lounge and main double bunk would be constructed of 6” premium two layered foam.
Second we constructed the saloon, lounge/settee, as two separate 4 position adjustable reclining lounge chairs that when deployed normally served as an extra comfortable sleeping bunk.
